Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh released its Annual Double Blind Peer Reviewed Interdisciplinary Journal Gyankosh, Vol VI, Issue December, 2023 today. This year's edition of the journal includes thirteen high quality research papers.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, commended the efforts of the Research Committee in bringing together this volume of Gyankosh, which will contribute to the enrichment of academic and research activities.

Interstellar - Science Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised an Expert Lecture on the occasion of National Science Day, sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration.

Dr Mala Kalra of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NITTTR, Chandigarh was invited to deliver an Expert Talk on the topic "Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat". The Expert Lecture was well received and promoted knowledge and understanding in students about the latest trends and developments in the field of Science and Technology. An

Innovative Model Making Competition was also held on the occasion, in which students participated enthusiastically and showcased their knowledge and talent.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, appreciated the faculty members for organising an expert talk on such a relevant topic. She also lauded the efforts of the students in making creative models.

 

“Interstellar", the Science Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised an educational trip to Kalpana Chawla Planetarium, Kurukshetra on 16th March, 2024. The trip was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration and consisted of 50 students and 2 faculty members. The students learned about amazing aspects of science and got a vivid range of information about the universe.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, lauded the efforts of the faculty members of the Science department for organising such educational trips.

The campus of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh resonated with melodious rendition of Gurbani Kirtan as the students, faculty and staff members celebrated the College Sthapana Diwas on February 16th, 2024.

 

The event began with the bhog of Sehaj Path on February 14th, which had commenced at the beginning of the academic year 2023-24. This was followed by the Arambh of Akhand Path commemorating the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Founder's day of the College. The Bhog of Akhand Path, today, was accompanied by the enthralling performance of Shabad Kirtan by the students of the college under the supervision of Bhai Hargeet Singh. Bhai Jagmeet Singh (Chandigarh Wale), then enraptured the devotees with melodious Shabad Kirtan. This was then followed by Shabad Kirtan which was performed by Bhai Davinder Singh Ji, Hazoori Ragi, Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.  The euphonic Kirtan left the devotees captivated and mesmerised.

 

S. Gurdev Singh (I.A.S. Retd.) (President, S.E.S), S. Col.(Retd.) J.S. Bala (Secretary, S.E.S.) and S. S. Virdi (Member, Executive committee S.E.S and Local Managing Committee) graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the Principal, Dr. Jatinder Kaur and conveners of the function, Mrs. Sukhmeen Kaur and Dr. Surinder Kaur for successfully organizing the function.

 

The programme culminated with Guru ka Langar which was served with faithfulness and devotion.

Department of Psychology of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised a workshop on the topic “Tips to Boost Self Esteem". Dr. Satinder Jit from Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, Chandigarh was the resource person for the occasion. She highlighted how caring for self, positive affirmations and adopting healthy habits can help improve self esteem. Students also took the Rosenberg Self Esteem test in order to become aware of their self esteem.

Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, appreciated the efforts of the department for organising a workshop on such a relevant topic and told the students to strengthen their mindset for a higher self esteem.

Dr. Saamdu Chetri, a renowned advocate for Gross National Happiness (GNH) and a distinguished visiting lecturer, graced Guru Gobind Singh College for Women with his presence to deliver a compelling lecture on the pursuit of happiness. The event was organized by the Rekhi Centre of Excellence for Science of Happiness, an entity dedicated to researching and promoting happiness as a science.

 Dr. Chetri introduced the concept of the 8th habit as the quest to find one's inner voice. He emphasized that this self-discovery is essential to leading a fulfilling and happy life.He elaborated on various types and methods through which one can attain their inner voice. Dr. Chetri underscored that understanding and listening to one's inner voice is pivotal for personal happiness. The lecture also shed light on the metaphorical roads people encounter in their lives. Dr. Chetri encouraged the audience to reflect on their life choices and the paths they take.

The lecture concluded on a joyful note with Dr. Chetri singing a happiness song, reflecting his own journey and the joy he finds in life. He also engaged the students in a hugging activity, teaching them the significance of physical connection in fostering happiness and well-being.

 

Interstellar- the Science Club of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised Awareness Workshop on Sustainable Practices, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration.

Dr.Pratibha Medirrata, dietician PGIMER delivered a special lecture on the topic “Millets: Miracle food for the future "She spoke about the economic importance of millets and their role in health. Mr.Amandeep Singh, the renowned Water Activist , was the guest of honour for the occasion. A Cooking Competition , highlighting various millet dishes was also held by the Department of Home Science to showcase the multiple uses of millets in everyday life. Students also took an oath to conserve water.

With immense zeal, fervor and excitement, the Science Club- Interstellar of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh organised an Inter- College “Science Fest-2024”, sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration. Dr Ritula Thakur, Associate Professor, NITTTR,  Chandigarh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Students from various colleges actively participated in the events which included Poster Presentation, Logo Designing, Science Meming, Slogan Writing and PowerPoint Presentation. Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, lauded the efforts of the students and the faculty of Science department in organising the Science Fest-2024 and making it a great success.
